All to know about World population in 2022

According to the United Nations, the world population in 2022 is expected to hit 8 billion. According to the world bank, the population of Nigeria is currently above 200 million and is projected to go even higher in the coming decades The significant changes in fertility rates, improvement in urban areas, and moving from rural to urban areas have all contributed to this remarkable development, which has been primarily driven by an increase in the number of people who have reached reproductive age. Future generations will be affected significantly by these developments.

Furthermore, fertility rates and life expectancy have been on the increase over time. These significant trends directly impact social life, income distribution, poverty, and economic progress.

The distribution, availability, and access to energy, water, food, housing, sanitation, and healthcare can also be affected.

Issues Affecting World Population Growth

Fertility Rate

The rate of worldwide fertility has significantly decreased during the past 50 years. In the years between 1950 and 1955, the typical woman was anticipated to have around five children in her lifetime. The average number of children per woman worldwide between 2010 and 2015 was 2.5 children.

The United Nations Population Division predicts that global fertility rates will gradually decline over the coming decades, reaching 2.1 children per woman, which is traditionally thought of as the “replacement level” needed to maintain a stable population in nations with low rates of young-person mortality.

Life Expectancy

The average newborn child’s life expectancy at birth, which is estimated, has been increasing globally. The United Nations estimates that during the past four decades, the average life expectancy at birth has increased from 48 years between 1950 and 1955 to 69 years between 2010 and 2015.

People are living longer in many nations due to increasing access to healthcare, advancements in food and hygiene, efficient treatment of infectious diseases, and several other factors.

The average life expectancy at birth is anticipated to rise to 76 years by 2050, up seven years from the current five-year period (2010-2015).

Common health issues with the Aging Population

The number of individuals aged 65 or older is anticipated to climb from an estimated 524 million in 2010 to approximately 1.5 billion in 2050, with most of the growth occurring in developing nations, according to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Health and Aging Study.

Some of the issues common with aging are;

  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Heart Disease
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Influenza and Pneumonia

At Reliance Health, we provide holistic health cover and care for the elderly through virtual, in-clinic, or at-home services.

Age Structure

As individuals live longer, there will be a rise in the global population in the next decades. The median age of the world’s population stayed in the low 20s from 1950 until around 1980. However, in 2010 the population’s median age was 28.

Family Planning as it Affects World Population

Family planning programs provide couples with the capacity to plan their family size, the timing of delivery, and the spacing of children.

Family planning initiatives are thought to be responsible for about 43% of the drop in global fertility between 1965 and 1990, after accounting for economic growth, which tends to reduce fertility on its own. Additionally, efficient family planning and economic development work in concert to increase the prevalence of contraception and lower fertility.

You can discuss with a Gynecologist regarding your fertility needs and family planning options. The choice of family planning will depend on your age, desire, medical history, and many others. We have all your needs covered at RH.
